What is GenerLink?

GenerLink is a socket-mounted transfer switch that is installed directly behind your electric meter. It provides a safe, direct connection between your portable generator and your home's breaker panel.

Unlike manual transfer switches that require complex home rewiring, GenerLink makes connecting a generator straightforward while protecting both your home and Canoochee EMC line workers.

Key Benefits:

  • No Messy Extension Cords: Power hard-wired appliances like refrigerators, well pumps, and lights directly through your home’s existing outlets.

  • Smart Power Management: Allows you to select which household circuits to run up to the total capacity of your generator.

  • Built-In Safety (No Backfeeding): GenerLink automatically disconnects your home from the Canoochee EMC grid when your generator is running. This prevents dangerous electrical "backfeed" that can severely injure utility linemen working to restore power.

  • Quick Installation: Typically installed in less than an hour by a licensed electrician or Canoochee EMC personnel.

How GenerLink Works

When an outage strikes, connecting your portable generator takes just a few simple steps:

  1. Turn off your home’s main breaker and all individual breakers.

  2. Plug the generator cord into the GenerLink unit.

  3. Start your portable generator.

  4. Turn on your main breaker and select the essential appliance breakers you wish to power.

Important Guidelines for Canoochee EMC Members

  • Professional Installation Required: GenerLink units must be installed by a licensed, qualified electrician or Canoochee EMC personnel to ensure compliance with local electrical codes and safety standards.

  • Compatibility Check: Before purchasing, verify that your portable generator and electrical meter setup are compatible with the GenerLink model you intend to buy.
