The Walter Harrison Scholarship:
Making Dreams Possible
Walter Harrison, an electric cooperative pioneer, devoted his life to the cooperative spirit. Fittingly, in 1985, the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation’s Board of Directors decided it was time to honor Mr. Harrison by naming a scholarship after him.
Georgia EMC, the trade association for the electric cooperatives of Georgia, then enlisted Georgia cooperatives to donate and support this scholarship. Canoochee EMC, known for its generosity, is proud to be a local supporter of this scholarship.
Seven $1000 scholarships will be given out in 2011 to students with exemplary academic records. Grade point average, SAT scores, academic standing, scholastic honors, and financial need are considered when determining eligibility. A scholarship committee comprised of directors and managers of Georgia EMCs seek to award scholarships to remarkable students who may otherwise not be able to afford college.
Students applying for the scholarship must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program with the state of Georgia, complete a two-page application, and write a two-page autobiographical sketch with references to future plans. The scholarship is available to any college level student, young or old. The due date is February 15, 2011.
